Eureka Woman Killed in Pedestrian Crash

On Tuesday, August 27, 2019, a Eureka woman tragically lost her life after being involved in a pedestrian crash. According to information from California Highway Patrol (CHP), the accident took place in the early morning at a highway location in the city of Fortuna. The woman was identified by Humboldt County authorities as Margery Wells, a 55-year-old Eureka woman. Wells was reportedly the only individual who suffered injuries during the accident. Additionally, officers of CHP are currently conducting an investigation into possible causes of the crash.

Crash Details

The accident took place just before 1:00 a.m. on northbound Highway 101 close to the exit for Main Street in Fortuna. According to police, a 26-year-old truck driver from Mad River stopped his vehicle a short distance from the accident and contacted law enforcement to report that he had struck a pedestrian on the highway. When emergency personnel arrived at the accident scene, they discovered that Wells had suffered major injuries. Sadly, she was declared deceased before she could be given medical care.

Investigation

Officers say that they do not currently know why Wells had been crossing the road at the time. Reports indicate that investigators do not believe intoxication by drugs or alcohol played a role in causing this crash. As CHP continues looking into this accident, officers have asked that anybody with information that could help investigators better understand the incident call (707) 822-5981 to report what they know.

Do I Need to Call a Lawyer?

When a person dies during an auto accident, they are unable to tell investigators their version of what happened. This often means that vital information gets lost in the process, and family members may not receive the compensation they deserve from negligent parties. Because liable parties are usually quick to begin defending themselves, it is important to get in touch with a Eureka wrongful death lawyer as soon as you can so that your attorney can begin conducting a private investigation into the accident and build your case for compensation.

What Can Be Recovered in a Wrongful Death Claim?

The affection and care of a loved one can never truly be replaced. However, when people lose their lives in auto accidents, their families are often able to claim a wide variety of payments related to their loss. These payments often cover both financial and personal damages, including lost household services and income, loss of companionship, medical expenses, funeral costs, and more.

However, the period of time after a fatal accident can be very difficult for the families of decedents, and many people are unsure of how they can reach out to a trustworthy attorney. If you’d like some information on how you can easily find trustworthy legal help, watch this video:
