Information was not released on what hospital that patient was transported to.

Two-Vehicle Crash in Elk Grove Under Investigation

The accident involved Honda and Mazda sedans. Authorities didn’t know if the vehicles were driveable. However, the Mazda was removed from the scene of the accident before the police unit arrived. The CHP is investigating the two-vehicle crash to find out how it occurred and place fault.

Injuries in a Two-Vehicle Crash

A two-vehicle crash can cause serious injuries. When a negligent driver was the reason, that person can be held financially responsible for damages such as medical expenses, wages lost because of the inability to work and for the pain and suffering. Common injuries in a two-vehicle crash include:

  • Cervical strain or sprain: When two vehicles collide, the sudden impact causes a person’s head to snap rapidly forward and back again. This can cause damage to muscles, tendons, ligaments and discs in the neck. The condition that arises from this type of injury is commonly called whiplash. While most cases resolve successfully in a few weeks or months, others may become chronic or last for a year or more, which can be debilitating.
  • Facial injuries: Facial injuries can occur if someone strikes the interior of the vehicle, the dash, windshield or steering wheel. Common injuries include facial fractures, disfigurement due to lacerations, broken teeth and more. Since many disfiguring injuries in an accident that require plastic surgery are not covered by insurance, filing a lawsuit against the at-fault party can recover the compensation needed to perform them.
  • Broken bones: Broken bones are common in all types of traffic accidents.
  • Traumatic brain injuries: A TBI ranging from concussion to head fracture, hemorrhage or more serious conditions can occur in a two-vehicle crash.
  • Abdominal injuries: The abdomen is subject to injury from pieces of metal in the vehicle or the pressure from the seat restraint. These types of injuries can include internal bleeding or organ damage, which often requires emergency surgery to repair because it can be life-threatening.
  • Spinal cord trauma: Damage to the spinal cord or back can cause a life-long disability if it is serious. Spinal cord damage can result in temporary or permanent paralysis, which leaves the injured party permanently and severely disabled.
