Crash on SR 99 Involves Two Big Rigs and Two Sedans

A chain-reaction accident in Elk Grove on March 21 caused injuries when two big trucks and two sedans collided. The collision occurred along northbound State Route 99 just south of the Grant Line Road off-ramp around 6:21 in the morning, blocking the slow lane. According to the incident report issued by the California Highway Patrol (CHP), one of the vehicles ended up missing its front wheel, and a tow truck had to be called for a big rig weighing around 25,000 pounds.

Sigalert Issued Following Four Vehicle Highway Crash

A Sigalert was issued for northbound Highway 99 for the number two lane, saying that there could be congestion and delays in the area due to the multiple-vehicle accident. The Sigalert was canceled shortly before 8:00 a.m. An investigation into the cause of the chain-reaction accident is underway by the CHP to determine how it happened.

Negligence Causes Most Accidents

There are various ways for a chain-reaction crash to occur – the most common reasons are listed below:

  • Speeding is a common cause of a chain-reaction crash when a driver can’t stop before colliding with a vehicle in front.
  • Alcohol- or drug-impaired drivers are unable to operate a vehicle safely, which can lead to an accident.
  • This motorist is distracted by texting or talking on the phone, which prevents him from looking up in time to avoid a collision.
  • The driver is too fatigued to drive because of odd hours, staying out too late the night before, or other reasons that cause a lack of sleep.

Liability in a Chain-Reaction Crash

More than one vehicle can strike an automobile multiple times in a chain-reaction crash, and more than one driver may be to blame. An injury attorney can assist you in these situations by discovering which driver/drivers were at fault. An investigation into the accident can uncover the evidence necessary for a client to file a claim for compensation. For example:

  • Accident reconstruction shows how the multiple-vehicle crash occurred, where the vehicles were initially positioned and how they ended up. It is accepted as evidence by insurance companies and civil courts.
  • Errors in the police report are identified by a thorough review.
  • In order to determine which vehicle/vehicles struck the client, it is critical that they photograph the scene, especially marks and paint smears.
  • Our investigators examine traffic cameras near the crash site to determine if pictures of the multiple-vehicle crash were captured.
  • Interviews are conducted with witnesses to see how the accident occurred and how each vehicle collided.

To support our client’s claim for compensation, our lawyers compile the evidence into a strong case.

Using Insurance to Pay an Injury Claim

Insurance companies dislike paying off claims. They are in the business of making and keeping money. Because of this, the first offers for settlements are usually low, especially when injuries occur. This way, not only does the insurance company pay a lower amount to the party, but the injured person cannot claim later that the amount was not enough to cover their expenses.

By negotiating with the insurance company on your behalf, your attorney will work hard to ensure that you receive fair compensation for your injuries. If your insurer refuses to negotiate in good faith, your lawyer will file a civil lawsuit to recover what you deserve.
