Driver Loses Life After Yreka Area Auto Accident

On Wednesday, January 20, 2021, one person lost his life during a Yreka area auto accident. Police stated that the incident happened in the very early morning and involved one passenger vehicle. The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office is waiting to release the decedent’s identity until his family has received official notification and the incident remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

Crash Information

The accident happened at around 2:45 on Highway 97, close to the Living Memorial Sculpture Garden. Police report that a man was driving a pickup truck northbound on the highway when his vehicle veered off-road for reasons that remain under investigation. After the truck left the highway, it overturned, rolling several times and ultimately coming to a rest around 150 feet from the edge of the road. CHP states that the driver was ejected from his vehicle as it overturned. No other individuals were reported to have been inside of the pickup truck when the collision occurred.

Response

CHP was alerted to the accident and immediately dispatched personnel to the area. Responders arriving at the scene first discovered the empty, wrecked vehicle and shortly after found the driver lying on the ground nearby. Sadly, the driver was officially declared deceased at the scene.

Investigation

While CHP officers investigate this accident, there have not been any reports regarding likely causes. Single-vehicle accidents might seem simple, but they are often complicated events that involve a number of causes. Furthermore, it’s common that single-vehicle accidents are partially or fully caused by things that aren’t controlled by the driver. These kinds of causal factors include damaged highway pavement, roadway obstacles, defective vehicle parts, and more.

Rollover Crashes and Liability

If a vehicle overturns during an accident, it’s much more likely that occupants will suffer serious injuries than if the car had remained upright. This is especially true for more heavy vehicles like pickup trucks and SUVs. This is because when a car rolls, it shifts its weight to its roof. When this happens, the roof needs to be able to withstand a considerable amount of force in order to keep from crushing.

If a roof isn’t built properly, it is liable to cave inward and cause “roof crush injuries.” Because vehicle manufacturing companies are expected to ensure their products are safe, they are often considered to be at-fault for rollover accident damages. However, to hold the company financially responsible, your attorney needs to be able to prove that the car’s roof was improperly built. For this reason, it’s vital to make sure you preserve the wrecked pickup truck after a serious rollover.
