Details on the Car Crash in Fresno County That Killed a Driver

A preliminary release by officials revealed that a 2020 Dodge Charger was traveling at a high rate of speed on eastbound SR-180. For unknown reasons, the Dodge allegedly rear-ended a van. The impact of the collision propelled the van, a 2003 Honda Odyssey, off the roadway and into a tree. The Honda burst into flames following the crash, according to CHP traffic officers.

Sadly, the Honda driver suffered fatal injuries in the collision. Officials have recently identified the decedent as 47-year-old Sanger resident Martin Hernandez Fuentes. The family has set up a GoFundMe page to assist with the costs of final resting services.

The Dodge driver, a woman aged 26, and her three passengers were treated at a local hospital. The driver of the Dodge was later arrested for driving without a license and vehicular manslaughter. Additional information on the incident has not yet been released.

Financial Recovery in High-Speed Car Accident Cases

High-speed motor vehicle collisions often result in catastrophic injuries or even death to involved parties. Motorists who cause traffic crashes through careless and negligent actions may be held liable for the resulting losses. For injured parties, they may be entitled to reimbursement of medical bills, wage loss, and other damages associated with the car wreck. Surviving family members may seek financial recovery for funeral service costs, loss of companionship, loss of financial support that the decedent provided to the household, mental anguish, etc.

In cases where egregious behavior is involved, punitive damages may be sought from the at-fault party. These are solely intended to punish a negligent individual or entity for their actions. They also serve the purpose of making an example out of the defendant and determining similar conduct in the future. In the context of a fatal motor vehicle collision in California, punitive damages may be sought from a motorist who was excessively speeding or driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs in the moments leading up to the incident.
