The Most Dangerous Roadway Areas for Bicyclists in Vacaville

Vacaville has been improving its roads over recent years, but is still not known as a particularly bike-friendly city. While the city boasts multiple greenways for cyclists, many major roads lack bike lanes, making it more dangerous for bicyclists to navigate the city. While predicting exactly where accidents will happen is impossible, bicyclists in Vacaville can improve their safety by learning about which areas of the city have high rates of traumatic bike accidents.

Bicycle Collisions in Vacaville

Statistics from local traffic enforcement groups, including the Vacaville Police Department (VPD), show that there were 3,044 traumatic auto accidents in the city during the decade between 2009 and 2019. Out of these 3,044 crashes, 180 involved a bicycle. This means that just around six percent of injury-causing crashes in Vacaville were between bicycles and vehicles. In comparison, the nearby city of Fairfield had a bicycle accident rate of around 4.2 percent, while Dixon was at 3.2 percent.

Across the 180 bicycle/vehicle collisions that took place in Vacaville over this period of time, 183 people were injured, and three lost their lives.

Bicyclist Injuries

Bicyclists are liable to suffer major injuries during accidents. Because they aren’t protected by the same safety features as vehicle occupants, bicyclists are especially vulnerable. In some situations, cyclists may be even more vulnerable than pedestrians because they are traveling at higher speeds and less able to absorb the impact of a fall.

Because of this, it’s common for cyclists to sustain injuries that require a long recovery period as well as extensive medical care.

Calling an Attorney

The cost of medical expenses is only one of the financial issues that accident survivors face. Often, injured cyclists also suffer a temporary or even permanent loss of income, loss of quality of life, damaged property, and more.

To make sure that you are able to obtain the compensation that you deserve for these damages, it’s best to reach out to a Vacaville bicycle accident lawyer right away.
