Dangerous Roadway Intersections for Bicyclists in Chico

Over the last month and a half, there have been two major accidents involving bicyclists in Chico. The most recent took place on Friday, July 17, 2020, and left one person in critical condition while the other occurred on Saturday, June 20, 2020, and cost a cyclist his life. While accidents are rare, all it takes is a single crash to leave you with injuries that can change your life, and cyclists in the area should do what they can to stay safe. One of the best ways to do so is to learn about where bicycle accidents tend to happen in your city.

What Makes a Particular Area Dangerous For Cyclists?

Certain areas of cities tend to see higher numbers of cyclist accidents. In many cases, this is simply because the area has a high volume of traffic, leading to more chances for crashes to happen. However, in many cases, there is an issue with the roadway itself.

Roads can be dangerous for cyclists for a number of reasons. A serious pavement defect can have a major effect on cyclists because their tires are small and easily thrown off-course. In many places, a lack of bicycle lanes makes it difficult for cyclists to travel safely, or there isn’t adequate signage to warn drivers and bicyclists of upcoming hazards. Another big issue for cyclists is a lack of proper lighting, making it difficult for drivers to see them at night. If an issue with the road caused an accident, the government responsible for that road may be considered liable in an accident case.
