How Survivors Benefit From Hiring a Lawyer for a Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash Case

Following the loss of a loved one in an accident, surviving family members may feel at a loss, not knowing how to move forward in their situation. This is especially true if the incident involves a hit-and-run driver. With the assistance of witnesses and local law enforcement, the fleeing motorist may be located. However, some hit-and-run drivers may go unidentified. It is crucial to retain legal counsel with the resources to hire a private investigator to track down the fleeing driver. This may have a significant impact on the overall outcome of the case.

It is recommended to hire a lawyer as soon as possible following a fatal accident involving a fleeing motorist. The sooner an attorney is retained, the more likely the hit-and-run driver will be located and held accountable for the harm their actions have caused. Moreover, evidence may be destroyed or lost as time progresses, and witnesses may have forgotten key details. There is a two-year statute of limitations that applies to these matters. Under some circumstances, the statute of limitations may be shortened to six months if the case involves a public entity.
