Injury Reported in Chico Three-Vehicle Crash on State Route 99

A Chico three-vehicle crash occurred recently, requiring an ambulance for one injured person. The collision occurred on northbound State Route 99 just north of the East 20th Street on-ramp just before 5:00 p.m. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that one party required an ambulance for a previous spinal cord injury.

The Butte County Sheriff’s Office was also at the scene to deal with a traffic bottleneck. CHP traffic collision detectives will examine the accident to determine the fault and how it occurred.

Compensation for a Pre-Existing Condition

Although some may think if they have suffered a previous injury in a Chico three-vehicle crash and experienced trauma in the exact location, they cannot seek compensation. This is not true. If a negligent driver caused this additional trauma, they still have the right to file a personal injury claim to recover damages.

An injury lawyer can use the client’s previous medical records and the new ones that show further damage to help the injured party collect the compensation they deserve. The lawyer can also use an expert witness to explain how the collision worsened the injury.  The injured party can recover compensation for the aggravation of their preexisting condition.

What Can I Recover if My Claim Is Successful?

As in all personal injury claims, you can recover the following:

  • Medical bills: Because the Chico three-vehicle crash made a preexisting condition worse, medical treatment and hospitalization may be necessary for an extended period. Your medical expenses, including physician bills, therapy, surgeries required because of your worsened condition, and rehabilitative care, are recoverable. If your medical treatment has not concluded by the time the case settles, your attorney can calculate the cost of your future expenses and add that to the settlement.
  • Wages: If you are employed and unable to work due to your accident, your lost wages are recoverable. In addition to wages, you can recover your lost insurance/pension benefits and the value of other perks of your job. If you cannot return to work, you can recover at least a portion of your salary until retirement age.
  • Pain and suffering: A spinal cord injury is often serious and accompanied by severe pain, immobility and emotional trauma as well as the physical. You can receive compensation for pain and suffering with the help of an injury lawyer.
