The Dangers Faced by Pedestrians

Pedestrians are especially vulnerable when it comes to being involved in accidents. In addition, the faster a motorist is going, the more likely a serious injury or fatality will occur. An accident lawyer can investigate a Chico pedestrian fatality crash to determine how it occurred. If the driver was negligent, they can be held responsible for the death. By doing so, it allows the family to recover compensation that can help them going forward. Filing a claim can also help the family achieve a sense of closure for their loss.

Accidents Involving Pedestrians Caused by Driver Negligence

A pedestrian’s life can be lost as a result of negligence on the part of a driver. Some of the negligent actions by a motorist that can lead to a pedestrian injury or fatality include:

  • Distracted drivers: Pedestrians are more likely to be struck by drivers distracted by their cell phones, eating while driving, or other distractions if they fail to pay attention to what is going on around them. This increases the risk of a fatal collision.
  • Driving impaired: Drinking or using drugs can cause impaired driving abilities and reaction times, making it difficult to detect pedestrians in crosswalks or other areas near intersections.
  • Fatigued drivers: A tired driver behaves similarly to someone who is impaired when dealing with traffic and can potentially lead to a Chico pedestrian fatality crash.
  • Reckless driving: Pedestrians can easily be killed by speeding, tailgating, cutting in and out of traffic, and other reckless driving practices.
