What to Do If You Cause a Carmichael Pedestrian Injury

A driver can be charged with hit and run whether it involves property or a person, which can result in severe penalties. Any driver who is involved in a car accident should do the following:

  • Remain at the scene. Leaving an accident site is irresponsible and can cost the driver jail time, fines, and loss of license.
  • Exchange information with the other driver or individual. This includes driver’s license, insurance information, address, and registration card.
  • Call 911 and report the accident to the local police or the CHP, depending on the jurisdiction.
  • If a Carmichael pedestrian injury or motor vehicle accident results in wounds, call for medical assistance, or get the person to a location for care.
  • California traffic accidents must be reported within 10 days to the DMV if the damage is over $1,000 or any person is even slightly injured or dies.

How Speed Can Influence a Carmichael Pedestrian Injury

There is a direct relationship between a vehicle’s speed and the amount of damage a collision with a pedestrian causes. According to statistics compiled by the American Automobile Association, injuries occur to pedestrians when they are struck by a motor vehicle traveling at 16 mph. At 31 mph, 50 percent will suffer serious injuries. Ninety percent of pedestrians will suffer severe injuries if the driver is going at a speed of 46 mph. At 50 mph, 75 percent of pedestrians will suffer a fatal event, while 90 percent will die if the driver is going 58 mph.
