A Carmichael fatal motorcycle crash occurred on May 18, causing the rider’s death. According to California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers, the accident may have involved speeding. The report of the incident stated the collision happened on Walnut Avenue near Robertson.

Carmichael Fatal Motorcycle Crash Involved T-Bone With Other Vehicle

The motorcyclist was allegedly speeding when a woman in an Acura SUV was heading south along Walnut and was making a left turn onto Robertson. The motorcyclist ran through a red light and broadsided the SUV. The rider, in his 50s, was not using a helmet and died at the accident scene.

Investigation Being Conducted by CHP Traffic Accident Detectives

The woman in the SUV was uninjured. The investigation into the accident’s cause was undertaken by CHP traffic detectives. The name of the deceased motorcyclist will not be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office until his family has received notification.

Causes of a Fatal Motorcycle Accident

Motorcyclist fatalities and serious injuries can result from a variety of collisions with passenger vehicles. Here are some of the most common causes:

  • Intersection accidents: More than half of all vehicle accidents occur at intersections, largely due to negligence. Common negligent behaviors include running red lights or speeding, which often result in serious motorcycle crashes.
  • Vehicles turning in front of motorcyclists: Many motorists claim they did not see the motorcycle rider, but often the driver tries to beat the motorcyclist across the road or misjudges the distance. In such cases, the driver is at fault and guilty of negligence in a Carmichael fatal motorcycle crash.
  • Open car doors: When a vehicle parked at the curb has a driver or passenger who opens a car door without checking for oncoming motorcycles, it can lead to fatal collisions. This simple act of negligence can have deadly consequences.
  • Drunk drivers: Drivers who are intoxicated by alcohol or drugs are highly dangerous on the roads. Their impaired judgment, poor reflexes, and inability to control their vehicles properly can easily result in motorcyclist fatalities.
  • Fatigued drivers: Drivers who are excessively tired pose a risk similar to drunk drivers. Fatigued drivers may fall asleep at the wheel or have impaired reflexes, leading to accidents that could be fatal for motorcyclists. The immediate family members who lose a loved one in a Carmichael fatal motorcycle crash caused by another driver’s negligence may file a wrongful death claim to recover damages. Damages include end-of-life expenses, wages until retirement age, and others.
