Butte County Rollover Prompts Warning From Cal Fire

On Thursday, January 9, 2020, a Butte County Rollover left one person with injuries requiring hospital care. In a public statement regarding the accident, Butte County Cal Fire urged drivers to practice caution by driving carefully and slowing down during rainy weather or on wet roads. Updates on the condition of the injured individual have not been reported so far. California Highway Patrol (CHP) is reportedly conducting an investigation into the accident.

Collision Details

CHP indicated that the accident happened in a rural area of Butte County on Lumpkin Road close to the small community of Forbestown. Pictures taken at the accident scene show that a mid-sized red sedan veered off the road and overturned, coming to a rest on its roof in a patch of bushes.

Driving on Wet Roads

Driving on wet roads increases your risk of being seriously hurt during an accident. However, there are a few precautions you can take in order to stay safe. First of all, it’s important to make sure that your vehicle is prepared for inclement weather. Check your tires, headlights, and windshield wipers to make sure that they are all in good shape and operating properly. Secondly, adjust your driving style by slowing down and avoiding hard turns or sudden braking, as these factors can increase the risk of your vehicle losing traction.

Rollover Accidents

NHTSA statistics show that vehicles only overturn in around two percent of auto accidents. However, rollovers account for around ten percent of fatal vehicle collisions. This shows that these accidents are more dangerous than other kinds of crashes. While there are several factors that make rollovers especially dangerous, one of the key reasons is that vehicle roofs are often unable to withstand the force of an impact.

When vehicle roofs are improperly designed or made of weak materials, they are liable to crush in the event of a rollover. When this happens, drivers and passengers can suffer what are called “roof crush injuries.” Because car companies are expected to ensure that their products are safe, they can often be held financially responsible when vehicle roofs aren’t strong enough to protect occupants.

Calling an Attorney

Liable parties such as auto product manufacturers are almost always ready to begin defending themselves from financial responsibility. Because of this, it’s critical to reach out to a Chico personal injury lawyer as soon as you are able to. Having an attorney on your side early on in an injury case is often very important to ensure that you receive the compensation that you deserve for medical bills, lost wages or earning potential, property damage, pain and suffering, and more.
