Brentwood Driver Crashes into Utility Pole

I’m Ed Smith, a Brentwood Injury Lawyer. During the early evening hours of Monday, November 13, 2017, a single-vehicle accident caused one driver to knock down a utility pole in Brentwood, CA. Thankfully, the accident left the driver with only minor wounds. The full story is shown below.

Utility Pole Versus Car

At around 5:45 p.m. on Monday evening, one vehicle struck a utility pole on Balfour Road and came crashing down just midway between Deer Valley Road and American Avenue. According to Craig Auzenne, Battalion Chief of the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District (ECCFPD), this collision caused a slight delay in traffic of those driving in the area, as it resulted in high voltage power lines that laid across the roadway.

While the power that connects to the lines was shut off, there was a possibility that the generators electricity may back flow across the power lines at any given moment. This potential electrical malfunction made the scene dangerous for responders.

The Aftermath of the One-Car Collision

According to reports from a California Highway Patrol (CHP) officer, the female driver has been arrested for allegedly driving while intoxicated.

Currently, the incident is still under further investigation to pinpoint how it all went down.

The driver had no one else in her car at the time of the accident. After responders arrived at the scene, the woman had to be transferred via ambulance to Antioch’s Kaiser Permanente Medical Center. The woman’s injuries were determined to be relatively minor. Initially, a medical helicopter was requested to come to the crash site, however it was eventually cancelled after paramedics decided that an air evacuation was not necessary given the woman’s current condition.

Responders to the accident included ECCFPD Engine 52, alongside the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District (ConFire) Engine 82 and an AMR ambulance.

For the remainder of the evening of November 13, travel on Balfour Road was blocked near Deer Valley Road in addition to the western region of American Avenue. Travel was anticipated to be cut off from those regions for the rest of the night while PG&E worked all night to replace the damaged utility pole.
