Collision on US 50 Involves Box Truck and Three Other Vehicles

An injury accident involving a large box truck and multiple vehicles occurred in Sacramento on March 7. The accident happened along eastbound US 50 just east of the southbound Watt Avenue on-ramp at around 11:22 a.m. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the traffic lanes were blocked in the collision between a 30-foot moving truck, Nissan Sentra and several other vehicles.

Medics Summoned to Accident Scene to Assess Injuries

First responders with the Sacramento Fire Department were summoned to the scene to assess injuries in the crash, but no further information was provided on how many people were injured or to what extent. The roadway was cleared and traffic moving again by 12:05 p.m. The incident is being investigated by the CHP to determine how the accident occurred and to place fault.

Getting Help for a Box Truck Injury Accident

When a box truck driver causes an accident, he or she should have coverage under his or her insurance policy. We can determine which coverage applies to your claim, review your case, gather the necessary documents and evidence and negotiate on your behalf with the insurance company to help you obtain the maximum compensation. Being injured by a negligent driver costs you enough in physical pain and suffering. You should not be expected to bear the financial burden. By bringing a personal injury claim against the negligent driver, you can recover your medical expenses, lost wages due to being unable to work and pain and suffering damages.

Accidents Caused by Box Trucks

There are often box trucks on the roads of Northern California. It is not unusual to have an accident involving one since they are so much bigger, heavier and harder to handle. The companies U-Haul and Ryder, which are also used by large industries like Amazon and UPS, offer box truck rentals for private individuals. Several factors can lead to an accident caused by a box truck driver’s negligence, including:

  • Distracted driving: When a driver consults their delivery schedule or GPS directions while driving, they may end up colliding with another vehicle and causing an injury accident.
  • Speeding: Due to their busy schedules, large companies frequently have speeding issues with their drivers.
  • Rear-end crashes: Box trucks that are carrying a full load require longer stopping distances, thus causing rear-end collisions.
  • Box truck inexperience: A new driver may not be aware that box trucks handle differently than passenger vehicles, have very large blind spots and require a longer distance to stop.
  • Unsafe loading: If a box truck is improperly loaded, it can roll over if the driver turns sharply or the load shifts, causing it to collide with other vehicles.

The Insurance Coverage of a Box Truck

The insurance policy of a company typically provides at least $1 million in coverage in a liability case involving one of its vehicles. Private motorists who rent box trucks are required to carry an insurance policy to cover any accidents while driving, but these policies are typically very limited with coverage ranging from $15,000 to $30,000. Box truck accidents usually result in people being compensated for their losses by the driver’s auto insurance policy.

A company may be liable for renting a vehicle to a driver who had a suspended license or a mechanical defect existed in the truck that led to the injury accident. Because of the complexity of liability, possibility of multiple insurance policies and other factors, enlisting the help of a lawyer following an injury accident with a box truck is important to obtain the compensation you deserve.
