Pedestrian Expires in Hospital Following Big Rig Crash

The pedestrian was walking west along Auburn Boulevard when he was struck by a Sacramento man, 51, driving a Freightliner, who was turning right onto Auburn when the pedestrian was struck. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at Mercy San Juan Medical Center. The CHP traffic accident investigation unit is handling the case to find out what occurred.

Walking in the Street in California

In California, under Vehicle Code § 21955, jaywalkers are not ticketed when it is done safely, but they are expected and encouraged to use crosswalks whenever possible, whether marked or unmarked. Pedestrians and motorists both must use a duty of care to avoid accidents.
