Big Rig Collision on State Route 99

Officials in Modesto reported a big rig collision on State Route 99 on the afternoon of Tuesday, June 7, 2022. The truck accident occurred at approximately 1:45 p.m. and was said to have delayed all lanes of southbound SR-99 near the scene. The California Highway Patrol asked drivers to use an alternative route to get through the area.

Details on the Big Rig Collision on State Route 99

A preliminary investigation by CHP traffic officers revealed that a tractor-trailer with a load of panes of glass was headed southbound on Highway 99. For unknown reasons, the load of glass became loose, and the driver claimed that this caused them to lose control. The front tractor veered off the road, glass was strewn all over the southbound traffic lanes, and the big rig came to rest on the embankment. The area was shut down for a few hours for CalTrans to clean the scene.

What You Should Know About Large Commercial Truck Accident Cases

California has some of the busiest highways that pave their way through rural towns and populated cities like Modesto. Traffic collisions happen all too often on Highway 99 because of drivers that are commuting or traveling to other parts of the state. Regardless of whether traffic is delayed or not because of congestion, motor vehicle collisions may occur. When a big rig is involved, it may lead to serious injuries or even death. That is because a passenger vehicle or other party on the road, like a motorcyclist, is no match for a tractor-trailer because of its overwhelming size and weight. Those who survive these accidents are often left to deal with a lifetime of financial losses, physical restrictions, medical care, and a lifetime of trauma and pain.

Truck drivers and trucking companies are expected to follow state and federal regulations. These are what govern their safe travel through the nation. Those that fail to uphold them and cause an accident may be held liable for damages incurred. This may be accomplished by filing a personal injury claim against the at-fault party and their insurer. Some losses that may be recovered in these cases include medical bills, wage loss, and more. Remember that large commercial trucks must carry higher liability coverage limits because of the dangers that are associated with these vehicles on the road. With this in mind, it is without a doubt that the insurance carrier representing the other side may make the recovery process challenging as a way of protecting their profit margin.

During negotiations and in court, insurers and defense counsel may attempt to resort to defense tactics to get out of paying fair compensation to an injured party. That is why it is often recommended that a party injured in a commercial truck accident retain legal counsel immediately after the incident to protect their rights and best interests. Unlike the other side, an experienced Modesto truck accident lawyer understands that injuries from these crashes may cause mounting medical expenses, wage loss, and serious injury that may become a lifetime burden. Your attorney will utilize their resources to work with experts in the field to prove the true value of your damages. From there, they will build a strong and compelling case to present in insurance negotiations or in court. For information on how to choose the best attorney, watch this video.

How Long Do You Have to Bring a Truck Accident Case?

Personal injury cases are subject to a strict time frame known as the statute of limitations. For a truck accident, an injured party has up to two years from the date of the incident to file in civil court. Failure to follow this may result in the dismissal of the case. That is why it is a good idea to work with an injury lawyer who can handle all aspects of the case and ensure that all deadlines are met.
