Nissan Sedan Pinned in Tractor-Trailer Crash on S.R. 49 On-Ramp

A tractor-trailer crash with a smaller vehicle in Auburn on July 11 pinned a Nissan Altima against the guardrail and caused injuries. The accident occurred around 11:34 a.m. on the State Route 49 on-ramp to westbound I-80, blocking the slow lane. Authorities with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) said the Nissan was pinned against the right-hand side guardrail with the semi on the other side, and the driver could not get out.

Firemen Extricate Driver Trapped in Vehicle by Tractor-Trailer Crash

The Nissan driver reported broken glass due to the crash, and they were bleeding. CalFire first responders were called to the scene to extricate the driver. No additional information was forthcoming on their injuries in the crash. The S.R. 49 on-ramp was closed to traffic, and a tow truck called to remove the vehicle. A determination of fault in the accident is ongoing by the CHP traffic investigation unit.

Why Drivers Lose Control and Cause a Tractor-Trailer Crash

Various factors can cause a big rig driver to lose control and cause an accident. Here are some common causes:

  • Distractions: Despite the responsibility of operating large trucks, big rig drivers can be distracted by their cell phones or other devices while driving, which diverts their attention from the road and makes them unable to react quickly enough in an emergency.
  • Fatigue: A big rig driver is often on the road for an extended period without taking a break, leaving them exhausted and drowsy, impairing their judgment, reaction time, and ability to make sound decisions.
  • Speeding: The pressure to make deliveries on time might lead to big rig drivers speeding to meet this deadline.
  • Blind spots: It is difficult for drivers of large trucks to see in front, behind, and on the sides of their trailer, which can lead to a tractor-trailer crash.
  • Truck accidents can occur due to poor weather conditions, such as rain, slick roads, and wind. Even a 50 mph wind can unbalance a trailer that’s not fully loaded.
  • An unmaintained big rig can cause accidents and lead to a driver losing control due to mechanical failures, such as faulty brakes and worn tires.

An accident might result in injuries resulting from a driver’s negligence. Sometimes, the company may also be responsible if the driver is unqualified or maintenance is inadequate. In the past, AutoAccident.com attorneys have successfully recovered collision compensation involving big commercial vehicles, and they can do the same for you.
