CHINESE CAMP – A firefighter has been injured in a firetruck accident while courageously battling a wave of wildfires sparked by lightning in Northern California, as the historic community of Chinese Camp faces heartbreaking devastation.

This small Gold Rush-era town, nestled in the Sierra Nevada foothills, is one of several areas deeply affected by the TCU Lightning Complex Fire—a series of more than 20 wildfires that ignited across Calaveras, Tuolumne, and Stanislaus counties. As of Thursday, the fires have scorched nearly 14,000 acres of land, reduced multiple structures to ash, and forced residents to flee their homes under urgent evacuation orders.

In the midst of the chaos, a firefighter was injured Thursday morning when a fire engine overturned on a road within the fire zone. The firefighter was taken to a local medical facility for evaluation. While their condition has not yet been shared, no other injuries were reported. Authorities are still working to understand what caused the truck to crash.

Our hearts are with those who are mourning the loss of homes, memories, and the character of a town steeped in history. We hope for the quick and complete recovery of the firefighter injured during an act of heroism.
