Accidents October 12
Accidents October 12
STOCKTON, CA – An overturned semi-truck brought southbound Highway 99 to a standstill north of Manteca late Wednesday afternoon, October 7, creating a major traffic headache for drivers traveling through the San Joaquin Valley.
The crash occurred at approximately 2:40 p.m. on State Route 99 between Stockton and Manteca. According to the California Highway Patrol, another vehicle was also involved in the collision. The circumstances leading up to the crash were not immediately known.
Shortly after 3:00 in the afternoon, Caltrans reported that all southbound lanes of SR-99 were closed at French Camp Road because of the overturned truck.
Traffic quickly backed up, leaving motorists with few options. Traffic cameras in the area captured a number of drivers altering course and leaving the freeway altogether, with several vehicles using a neighboring field to get around the blockage.
The CHP’s Stockton office reported that minor injuries were sustained in the crash, although officials did not identify who was injured.
An overturned commercial truck can create far more than a temporary traffic nuisance. Big rigs are substantially heavier and larger than passenger vehicles, and when one crashes, the consequences can include severe vehicle damage, secondary collisions and significant roadway closures. Even after the initial impact, disabled trucks and scattered debris can create additional hazards for approaching motorists.
Investigators had not yet determined what caused the Highway 99 crash as of the latest report.

MODESTO, CA – A vehicle collision with a light pole shut down both directions of Coffee Road in Modesto on Friday afternoon, October 9, disrupting traffic for several hours, according to police.
The crash occurred near Ensenada Drive and Celeste Drive, where authorities closed Coffee Road in both directions while emergency personnel responded to the scene.
Police reported that medical aid was being provided to the driver. No other vehicles or pedestrians were involved in the collision, according to authorities. Officials did not immediately release information about what caused the driver to strike the light pole or whether any other factors contributed to the crash.
The roadway remained closed for several hours before reopening at approximately 3:30 p.m., police said.
Determining what caused a collision is an important part of understanding whether negligence played a role. Depending on the circumstances, factors such as distracted driving, excessive speed, impairment, or a medical emergency may warrant investigation.

Two Juvenile Pedestrians Injured in Modesto Crash
MODESTO, CA – According to Modesto police, two juvenile pedestrians suffered injuries in a traffic collision Friday night, October 9, along Coffee Road in Modesto. This was the second crash on Coffee Road on that day.
This second crash occurred on Coffee Road’s 1100 block, prompting authorities to close the roadway near East Fairmont Ave. and Brighton Ave. Modesto police and fire personnel responded to the scene, where traffic was delayed as the investigation commenced.

Pedestrian Accidents Can Have Serious Consequences
When a vehicle strikes a pedestrian, the consequences can be devastating, particularly for children and teenagers, who have little physical protection against the force of a moving vehicle. Even a collision at a relatively low speed can result in broken bones, traumatic brain injuries, internal injuries, and other serious harm.
Pedestrian accidents can happen in seconds, but the physical, emotional, and financial consequences may last for months, years, or even a lifetime.
Drivers have a responsibility to exercise reasonable care around pedestrians, especially in areas where people may be walking near intersections, residential streets, and other frequently traveled roadways. Depending on the circumstances, distracted driving, excessive speed, failure to yield, or a driver’s failure to keep a proper lookout may contribute to a pedestrian collision.
However, determining who was at fault requires a careful investigation of the available evidence. Investigators may examine witness statements, physical evidence, vehicle damage, surveillance footage, and other information to reconstruct what happened.
What Families Should Know After a Pedestrian Accident
When a child or teenager is injured in a collision with a motor vehicle, families may suddenly face medical appointments, unexpected expenses, uncertainty about recovery, and difficult questions about what comes next.
If negligence contributed to the crash, the injured pedestrian and their family may have legal options for pursuing compensation. The circumstances of the collision, the nature of the injuries, and the available insurance coverage can all affect a potential claim.
