Accident Near Yuba City High School Occurs When Driver Strikes Pole

A single-vehicle crash in Yuba City occurred recently when a driver struck a telephone pole. The Yuba City Police Department reported that the accident occurred along Park Avenue near the Yuba City High School between Franklin Avenue and B Street. A work crew with PG&E arrived at the scene to repair the phone pole. No information was provided by police on whether the driver was issued a citation in the incident.

Single-Vehicle Crash Causes

Most accidents involving a single vehicle are due to driver negligence, such as speeding, distracted driving, etc. However, other factors may come into play that can result in a single-vehicle crash, such as the following:

  • Vehicle malfunction: When a vehicle blows a tire, the brakes fail, the accelerator sticks, or for other causes, the driver loses control and often ends up in an accident. If an injury accident occurs, it is a good idea to keep the vehicle so that it can be examined for defects. When a defect is found to have caused a crash, an auto product liability claim may be filed against the manufacturer. When filing a product liability claim in California, it does not have to be proven that negligence was involved, only that the defective part was used as intended and had not been altered.
  • Negligent road maintenance: When upheavals in the pavement, potholes, missing signs, malfunctioning traffic signals, or other problems are found along a roadway, it can easily lead to a single-vehicle crash. An injury lawyer can determine if this was the cause of your accident injuries. A claim may be filed against the government entity charged with maintenance. However, the filer has only six months to do so. If the claim is filed after that date, it will not be heard in court. An injury lawyer can assist by handling the paperwork, negotiating your claim, and ensuring the filing is made before the statute of limitations expires.
  • Livestock in the roadway: There are numerous instances in which a driver crashed their car because they had to swerve to avoid a cow, horse, or another domestic animal on the road. Because those who own livestock must keep them safely behind a fence or other enclosure to prevent them from getting on the road, the owner may be held responsible for any accident injuries.
  • Aggressive drivers: Unfortunately, aggressive drivers have become more common, and in addition to tailgating or making threatening gestures toward another motorist, they sometimes force another vehicle off the road, causing a single-vehicle crash. An injury lawyer can investigate by checking surveillance cameras in the area, among other evidence collection, to prove that this is what happened. If the aggressive driver can be identified, they may be held legally responsible.
