YOU ONLY DIE ONCE

Be careful honey, you only die once . . .

My mother would often say “You only die once” as I exited the front door of our family home to hop into the passenger seat of a car driven by a friend of mine.

I was about fifteen-years-old when she first used that phrase on me.

I remember being a happy and carefree teenager just on the verge of getting my driver’s license.

Mother did not forbid me to ride in cars with my friends.

Instead, she hugged me good-bye and said that familiar phrase, “be careful honey — you only die once.”

Did it work?

I must admit – it did.  It was a very effective method of keeping me on-guard and aware while driving with my friends.

BEFORE THE IMPACT

WHAT:  A safety class designed to educate teenage (and adult) drivers are being offered once again in the City of Elk Grove.

It is being sponsored by Elk Grove Police Department and the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office.

WHEN:

  • September 29, 2015 – 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. (1.5 hours)
  • October 3, 2015 – 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. (1.5 hours)

WHY:

The whole idea, in a nutshell, focuses on the life-changing consequence of making poor decisions while behind the wheel of a car.

Also covered, are the horrific outcomes for those riding as passengers in a car with a driver who makes terrible decisions.

See graphic photos, victim clothing and the car two brothers were occupying when an impaired motorist crossed over into their lane and killed them.

These types of accidents are real.  This is no joke!
