Woman Killed Following Modesto Pedestrian Accident
Woman Killed Following Modesto Pedestrian Accident. A woman was left with fatal injuries following a pedestrian accident in Modesto on August 25, 2018. At approximately 8:30 in the evening, a man and woman were standing together in the median of Pelandale Avenue. At the same time, a Ceres resident in a 2016 Honda Civic was traveling westbound along Pelandale Avenue when the man reportedly crossed the street followed by the woman. The Honda driver attempted to veer to the left to avoid striking the man but, unfortunately, crashed into the woman. The impact of the collision propelled the woman over 100 feet before she landed on the asphalt. Emergency personnel responding to the accident transported the woman to an area hospital where she was later pronounced deceased. The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as 38-year-old Cami Joan Pernia of Modesto.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the friends and family of Miss Pernia who passed away in this tragic accident.
Officers from the Modesto Police Department have not yet released an exact cause of the accident due to an ongoing investigation. No other parties or vehicles were reported as being involved in the crash. Collisions like this one often occur due to driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, speeding, distracted driving, and other factors.
Pedestrian Injuries from Car Accidents
Pedestrians are susceptible to suffering serious injuries when involved in an accident with a motor vehicle. Crashes at low speeds can potentially leave a pedestrian with severe trauma such as bone fractures, facial damage, internal trauma, traumatic brain injuries, and more. Any type of injury resulting from a pedestrian accident can drastically affect an individual’s life and leave them with chronic symptoms. These symptoms can interfere with the ability to perform daily tasks, earn wages, or engaging in activities once enjoyed.
How a Wrongful Death Attorney Can Assist
Pedestrian accidents often create life-changing experiences for those affected. When a pedestrian accident claims the life of a loved one, surviving family members may bring a wrongful death claim against the party responsible for the death to recover damages incurred. These may include costs of a funeral and burial, end-of-life medical care, loss of consortium, household services lost, and other resultant damages. If this situation applies to you and your family, it is essential to reach out to an experienced wrongful death attorney in Modesto to review the details of your case to protect your right to fair compensation.
