Woman Involved in Sacramento Pedestrian Injury Accident

Sacramento Pedestrian Injury Accident Involves Head Trauma

A pedestrian injury accident occurred in Sacramento on June 18 after a woman was struck by a vehicle, which fled the scene. According to the police report, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene along with responders from Sac Metro Fire. They discovered a woman who was heavily bleeding from a head wound along Stockton Boulevard northwest of 65th Street.

Injured Woman Transported to a Hospital

The pedestrian was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment and further evaluation. Witnesses to the pedestrian injury accident said that the driver appeared to intentionally aim for the woman. The accident is being investigated to locate the hit and run driver and determine how it occurred.

Common Causes of a Pedestrian Accident

Pedestrians are vulnerable in a traffic collision and frequently suffer serious injuries such as head trauma. Some reasons a motor vehicle and pedestrian injury accident occur is:

  • The driver is speeding and can’t stop in time to avoid a collision.
  • The motorist is drunk driving or has been using drugs.
  • The driver is distracted because they are texting or talking on their cell phone.
  • Poor lighting or an obstructed view ahead prevents the driver from seeing the pedestrian.
  • The driver is fatigued from working late or not getting enough sleep.

How a Lawyer Helps Following an Accident Injury

The investigation of a pedestrian accident is similar to how other traffic collisions are investigated. The reason is that evidence is required to prove negligence if someone who was injured wants to place a compensation claim. By doing so, they may be able to recover personal injury damages such as the pain and suffering they endured, the lost wages and their medical expenses. A lawyer who is experienced in handling pedestrian accident injuries can help an injured person by investigating the accident and negotiating with the insurance company. If negotiations are futile, the injury lawyer can prepare a court case to recover the damages.

How a Pedestrian Injury Accident Is Investigated

We send out our trained investigators to the collision site as soon as possible to begin collecting the evidence needed to support our client’s claim. Some of the areas in which they conduct an investigation include:

  • The police report is checked for mistakes.
  • The investigators speak to the witnesses to understand what they saw.
  • They perform accident reconstruction, which collects forensic evidence. A detailed report includes photos of the area and vehicles, information about road damage caused by the collision and any tell-tale signs of negligence by the driver. These may include tire marks or signs of weaving.
  • Traffic and business surveillance cameras are an important part of the evidence. If the accident was caught on tape, it can be used to prove the motorist was at fault.
  • Medical records of the injured pedestrian are collected, which not only shows the injuries the individual suffered but can help prove fault. This is because the trauma is consistent with someone who’s been struck by a motor vehicle.
  • Government negligence can sometimes contribute to a pedestrian injury accident. Potholes, overhanging branches, defective lights, and poor lighting are often the culprits.

Once the evidence is compiled, our lawyers take over to build a case that benefits our client. In many cases, the insurance company can be negotiated with to provide the damages for the client but not always. When that happens, the lawyers are just as comfortable taking the case to civil court to recover the damages. The client owes nothing until the case has been won.
