Woman Identified After Vallejo Accident

On Wednesday, January 23, 2019, the Solano County Sheriff’s Office authorities reported the identity of a woman who lost her life in a recent Vallejo car accident. The woman was identified as Gretchen Elliot, a 23-year-old woman. Police say her last known address was in Bakersfield. The crash happened a day earlier, on Tuesday, January 22, 2019, and involved a single vehicle. Elliot had been a pedestrian walking in the downtown area of Vallejo. Vallejo Police Department (VPD) officers are investigating the crash to determine the factors involved. My sympathy is with Elliot’s family and friends while they are grieving the loss of their loved one.

Crash Details

The accident happened at about 7:00 p.m. Elliot was walking on Lewis Brown Road east of Sonoma Boulevard. At the same time, a 52-year-old Vallejo man was driving east on Lewis Brown Road in a Kia Soul. The man struck Elliot in front of a local furniture store between Sonoma Boulevard and Broadway Street. VPD said Elliot had not been in a crosswalk when the crash happened.

Emergency responders rushed to the crash scene to render aid. Medics say that they found Elliot with severe injuries. The woman was placed in an ambulance and transported to a local hospital for emergency medical care. Tragically, she could not recover from her trauma, and she was declared deceased by officials at the hospital.

The driver of the Kia was not injured during the crash. VPD reported that no other people or vehicles were involved.

Investigation

While VPD is investigating the accident, officers have not said what they think caused the crash. Vehicle/pedestrian collisions are severe and can happen for many reasons. Some common vehicle/pedestrian crash factors include driving while distracted, medical emergencies, poor roadway visibility, reckless drivers, and more.

Pedestrian Crashes in Vallejo

VPD stated that this was the first fatal car accident the city had seen in 2019. However, four fatal pedestrian crashes occurred in January 2018 and several more throughout the year. Pedestrian accidents can cause fatal injuries at low speeds and have a higher fatality rate than crashes involving other vehicles.

After a fatal pedestrian crash, the decedent’s family is often left with heavy expenses. These include medical bills, lost income, emotional damage, and more. However, negligent parties are usually responsible for paying for these losses. To learn about pedestrian injuries and wrongful death claims, speaking with a Vallejo wrongful death lawyer who has handled fatal car accident claims is best.
