Woman Identified After Fatal Yuba City Collision

On Friday, November 1, 2019, a woman who passed away during a fatal Yuba City collision was identified by authorities of the Sutter County Sheriff’s Department. The decedent was identified as Angela Dunakin, a 52-year-old resident of Roseville and the widow of a police officer who tragically lost his life in a 2009 shooting. The accident reportedly took place a few days before her identity was released on Monday, October 25, 2019. California Highway Patrol (CHP) currently has this accident under investigation.

Crash Details

According to reports released by CHP, the accident happened on Highway 99 at the intersection of Highway 20 within Yuba City limits. So far, police have released very few details regarding the circumstances of the crash, including how many vehicles and individuals were involved. Dunakin is survived by her children, grandchild, and loved ones.

Investigating Fatal Accidents

While investigating a fatal accident, it’s often difficult for police to find out just what caused the crash because they are unable to ask decedents about what happened. Additionally, negligent parties often try to control investigations by taking their own statements from witnesses and obscuring important evidence. For this reason, it’s important that families get in touch with a trustworthy attorney who can perform a private investigation into the crash. An experienced lawyer will know how to determine if any negligence was involved and can protect your family’s right to claim compensation from at-fault parties.

Common Causes of Fatal Collisions

Fatal car accidents happen every day, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that around 100 Americans lose their lives in vehicle collisions every day. In most cases, these accidents happen because of the negligence of one or more parties. The most common cause of fatal accidents is driver negligence, but there are also common collision factors that aren’t under the control of drivers. These can include malfunctioning vehicle parts such as tires, brakes, and steering systems, as well as dangerous or poorly designed roads.

How Can a Wrongful Death Claim Help My Family?

The love and care of a family member can’t ever really be replaced. However, losing somebody that you care about not only causes emotional difficulties but financial issues as well. Suffering a death in the family often leaves households without a source of income and/or valuable services such as childcare, cleaning, home maintenance, and more. Furthermore, many families are left with medical expenses related to the fatal accident and also need to pay for burial and funeral costs.

These concerns are why families are able to file wrongful death claims and claim payments for their losses from responsible parties. By filing a claim, the loved ones of decedents can often obtain payments for both financial and personal losses. Having these payments often provides families with the stability they need to heal during a very difficult period of time.
