Winters Solo Vehicle Accident
I’m Ed Smith, a Winters car accident lawyer. In the early hours of the morning on Saturday, February 18, 2017, a solo-vehicle collision took place near Dixon on Interstate 80.
What Happened?
Officers with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to witness reports of a single-vehicle collision on Interstate 80 near the Highway 113 exit at approximately 1:24 a.m. Witness to the accident told officers that they saw the driver of the vehicle swerving between lanes on the highway shortly before he veered off of the highway for no apparent reason. The motorist lost control of his vehicle and collided into a nearby tree at a high rate of speed.
Were There Injuries?
According to statements released by the Yolo County CHP the solo vehicle was occupied by a 25-year-old man from Winters. Emergency first responders found the driver pinned inside his vehicle unresponsive. Fire crews worked to extricate the victim. The driver later succumbed to his traumatic injuries that he suffered in the collision.
Ongoing Investigation and Road Closures
The CHP is leading the investigation into this fatal solo-vehicle accident. The name of the young man who tragically lost his life has not yet been released pending notification to his next-of-kin. Investigators are looking into whether or not driving under the influence and speed were possible factors in this tragic accident. Interstate 80 and the Highway 113 exit were backed up for a short time following this collision.
