Willits Cement Truck Accident Injures Two

Two people suffered trauma after a Willits accident on Tuesday, June 2, 2020. Information reported by California Highway Patrol (CHP) indicates that the accident involved two vehicles, a cement truck and a small sedan. According to medical officials, one of the injured parties suffered severe trauma. Updates on the conditions of the survivors haven’t been reported, and the cause of the crash is being investigated.

Collision Information

The collision occurred at around 7:30 a.m. on Highway 101 in Willits. According to police reports, a cement truck overturned after colliding with a Honda Civic on the south side of the Willits Bypass. As a result of the crash, the truck spilled a load of wet concrete onto the road and pinned the smaller vehicle underneath it. Additionally, around 400 feet of highway guardrail was ripped out of the ground during the incident. Details about what led up to the crash remain unavailable.

Response

After arriving at the accident scene, responders discovered that one person in the Honda was trapped inside the wrecked vehicle. The trapped individual was extricated and placed on a medical helicopter at around 8:13 a.m. The individual was transported to an out-of-the-area hospital for treatment of major injuries. A second person involved in the accident reportedly suffered moderate injuries and was taken to the local Howard Hospital.

Investigation

As police look into possible causes of this crash, no likely factors have been mentioned by officials. Reportedly, the highway remained closed to traffic until around 3:00 p.m., while accident response and preliminary investigations of the crash scene were conducted. Collisions like this one frequently involve non-driver causes like defective auto parts or serious issues with the road.

Truck Accidents and Quick Action

Large commercial vehicles such as cement trucks are almost always owned by a larger company, and these companies are aware of the risks that operating a fleet of vehicles entails. Trucking companies are usually ready to take legal action directly after a crash occurs and will work hard to try and mitigate their liability for the accident.
