Waterford Boy Killed in Truck Crash in Gilroy Area

A boy from Waterford was killed, and three adults suffered injuries in a truck crash in the Gilroy area on the afternoon of Saturday, July 24, 2021. The incident was reported at approximately 1:20 p.m. on Highway 156 near Pacheco Creek Drive, just southeast of Gilroy.

Details on the Gilroy Area Truck Crash That Claimed the Life of a Waterford Boy

In a statement from the California Highway Patrol (CHP), a 27-year-old man was driving a 2019 Freightliner Cascadia westbound on State Route 156. At the time, traffic ahead of the big rig had slowed. For unknown reasons, the Freightliner truck rear-ended a 2020 Toyota Corolla. The impact of the collision propelled the Toyota into a 2021 Volvo VNL760.

The drivers of the Volvo and Freightliner trucks were uninjured in the crash, according to CHP traffic officers. Three adults in the Toyota were transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries described as minor. Sadly, an 11-month-old boy from the town of Waterford in Stanislaus County succumbed to his injuries from the truck accident. Anyone with information on the collision is encouraged to reach out to the Gilroy-Hollister CHP area office.

What You Should Know About Truck Accidents and the Claims Process

When a passenger vehicle is involved in a traffic collision with a large commercial truck, the result may be traumatic and life-changing. The sheer size of big rigs may contribute to the extensive damage that these crashes often result in. Conversely, other factors such as unbalanced loads increasing the risk of a rollover accident and big rigs requiring longer stopping distances may also play a role in the outcome of a wreck. Those involved may suffer some of the most serious injuries on the spectrum that may result in emotional and financial consequences. In some extreme cases, they may result in the loss of a loved one.

In the context of a truck accident, negligence may be established based upon the facts and circumstances of the case. Since there are so many parties and factors involved in these cases, it is essential to retain legal counsel right away. Working with an experienced personal injury lawyer in Waterford is essential to protecting your rights and best interests as an injured party or family of a decedent. The reason is that trucking companies often take quick action to protect themselves and their bottom line. The same may be said for commercial insurance carriers.
