Celebrating the 4th at the Ventura Street Fair

I’m Ed Smith, a Ventura car accident lawyer. This year’s 4th of July street fair theme is “Sea to Shining Sea,” and will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. along Main Street from Fir to Mission Park. Ventura residents look forward to the Independence Day events in the city every year, and this year will be no exception. Over 30,000 people are expected to attend.

The Pushem Pullem Parade

The Ventura East Rotary Club is sponsoring the Pushem Pullem Parade, which gathers at Crimea and Main to head down Main Street at 10:00 a.m. The parade welcomes those who are patriotically attired, bicyclists and those pulling their little red wagons.

Other Offerings

Mission Park is the location for a Kids’ Zone to enjoy bouncy houses and rides. Representatives from the Ventura Fire Department will also be there, so children can get the thrill of seeing a fire truck close up. Grownups and kids alike can partake of the many food booths and live entertainment on five different stages.

Fireworks and Picnic

For the 23rd year, the Ventura Rotary Club is sponsoring the picnic and fireworks display at the Ventura College Athletic Fields. The gates will be opening at 5:00 p.m. Bring along your picnic goodies and the family as the sky lights up. Smaller umbrellas are fine. Please leave big umbrellas at home since they could spoil the view for some of the visitors. Pets are not allowed at the picnic. Neither are alcoholic beverages or glass. Tickets can be purchased at Eventbrite or Vons.

Accidents During Holidays

Accident injuries tend to spike during holiday weekends since many people are off work, on the road or attending events. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, on the July 4, 2015, about 8,000 individuals were injured by fireworks between the 19th of June and the 19th of July. The injuries suffered were not only burn injuries but included amputation injuries. Eleven persons died that year from fireworks alone.

Motor Vehicle Accidents

The Independence Day weekend is the deadliest in terms of injuries and deaths from motor vehicle accidents. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which has gathered car accident statistics for over 25 years, reported that alcohol consumption is a factor in an average of 51 percent of motor vehicle accidents over the extended holiday weekend. On July 4 itself, more motor vehicle fatalities occur than on any other day of the year.

Fault in a Personal Injury

In determining fault in an accident, the injured person must be able to prove that his or her injuries occurred as a direct result of the accident. Under California law, which is a pure comparative negligence state, more than one person may be liable for a portion of an accident, and a percentage of negligence is assigned to each negligent person. For example, an individual who is found to be 20 percent at fault may still recover 80 percent of the damages awarded. An injury lawyer who is experienced in personal injury cases and comparative fault can advise on whether damages can be recovered and deal with the insurance companies involved. The attorney may also file a personal injury lawsuit to recover fair compensation for the injured person.
