Merging Accident on the Ventura Freeway Causes Fatality and Serious Injuries

A big rig accident involving another vehicle resulted in the death of an infant in the Valley Village area of Los Angeles on January 16. The collision occurred along the Ventura Freeway near Tujunga Avenue at about 1:25 p.m. According to the police report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) the infant was with a man and woman in a Land Rover going north on U.S. Route 101.

Infant Killed in Big Rig Accident After Being Ejected From Vehicle

As the Land Rover was progressing along the highway, a big rig pulling a trailer merged from the shoulder, and the two vehicles collided. The SUV experienced multiple rollovers before it struck a concrete wall and ended up upside down. As it was rolling, the infant was ejected. She suffered critical injuries in the accident and was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

Authorities Seeking Witnesses to the Fatal Collision

The two adults, a man, age 27, and a woman, age 26, and both Sylmar residents suffered significant injuries in the big rig accident. The infant was not in a carrier, and the woman was not using seat restraints when the collision occurred. The truck driver, a Los Angeles man, 67, reportedly did not suffer any injuries in the accident. Witnesses to the big rig accident are being asked to contact the West Valley office of the CHP at (818) 888-0980 or at the LA Traffic Management Center (323) 259-3410.

Wrongful Death and Personal Injury Accidents Involving a Big Rig

When an accident involving a big rig occurs, the injured party or grieving family may be facing significant losses. When someone dies or is seriously injured in an accident caused by a negligent truck driver or corporation, the consequences can be devastating for their loved ones. In order to receive proper compensation for medical expenses, lost wages and other costs related to the accident, it is important to have an experienced attorney on your side.

Investigating a Big Rig Accident

A lawyer handling a wrongful death or personal injury case involving a big rig can help you navigate the complex legal issues related to such accidents, including:

  • Determining the liable party or parties and proving fault in court
  • Negotiating with insurance companies and other parties involved
  • Investigating the accident scene and other evidence related to it
  • Obtaining relevant documents such as trucking logbooks and maintenance records
  • Identifying all potential sources of compensation, including pain and suffering damages

Having a qualified attorney by your side can make a huge difference in obtaining the compensation you or your family deserves. An experienced lawyer will be able to recognize potential issues and work to ensure that all of the parties responsible are held accountable for their negligence. Additionally, an attorney can advocate on behalf of a family in the event of a wrongful death, helping them to get justice and closure.
