Vallejo Resident Killed in Highway Accident
California Highway Patrol (CHP) has reported that a Vallejo man lost his life in a local highway accident that occurred in the early morning on Sunday, November 10, 2019. Solano County authorities have identified the decedent as a 29-year-old man. However, officials are waiting to report the decedent’s name until his family is properly notified about the tragic collision. Reports stated that the crash involved one pedestrian as well as three vehicles and injured one person in addition to the decedent. The collision remains under active CHP investigation at this time.
Accident Details
The accident occurred just after midnight on Highway 37 close to Fairgrounds Drive in eastern Vallejo. The decedent had been driving westbound in a Nissan Altima when he lost control of his vehicle and collided with the right shoulder guard wall. The impact caused his vehicle to travel over all westbound lanes before coming to a complete stop between the center divider and far-left fast lane of the highway.
Investigators stated that the man exited his vehicle and walked across westbound lanes to wait on the right-hand shoulder. After waiting for a moment, the man attempted to cross the highway again in order to return to his car. As he was crossing, he was struck by an oncoming Jeep Commander. The collision reportedly caused a third vehicle, a Honda Civic, to swerve to the right and strike the shoulder wall before colliding with the jeep.
Response
Emergency staff were dispatched to the crash scene directly after CHP received a call regarding the incident. When they arrived, they found that the pedestrian had been fatally injured during the collision with the Jeep. The Honda driver was reportedly treated at a nearby hospital for minor trauma while the Jeep driver was uninjured during the incident. According to reports, no other individuals were involved in this accident.
Investigation
As police continue to look into this accident, anybody who has information regarding the crash has been asked to call CHP using the non-emergency phone number 1-800-TELL-CHP or by contacting the Solano Office directly using (707) 428-2100. Callers should ask to speak with Officer Butolph, who is in charge of the investigation.
