Details on the Truck Crash in Ceres That Killed a Vallejo Man

A 63-year-old Stockton man was driving a big rig northbound on SR-99 near Hatch Road. For unknown reasons, the semi-truck collided with a pedestrian identified as a 28-year-old man from Vallejo. Sadly, the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries. His identity has been withheld due to pending family notification, CHP traffic officers said.

The fatal pedestrian accident closed the No. 3 Lane of northbound State Route 99 and caused traffic congestion in the area for at least two miles, officials reported. Additional information on the truck vs. pedestrian accident on northbound Highway 99 in Ceres was not immediately available due to an ongoing investigation.

What You Should Know About Commercial Truck Accident Cases

A commercial truck accident case may be challenging, given that extensive state and federal regulations may apply to the incident. These laws regulate everything from the number of hours that a trucker can log to safety protocols. Letters of preservation of evidence must be sent to the trucking company and other potentially liable parties before evidence is destroyed or lost over time. This, among other factors, is what makes big rig crash claims different than those only involving passenger vehicles. Since every incident is different, so is the time necessary to settle a personal injury or wrongful death claim. A case may take months or a few years for a resolution through an insurance settlement or a jury verdict.

The involvement of a difficult insurance company, commercial trucking company, defense counsel, and other potentially negligent parties may make the claims process difficult to navigate. Fortunately, an experienced Modesto truck accident lawyer can simplify the process for claimants. An attorney can handle all aspects of the case from start to finish. Remember that a strict filing deadline applies to personal injury and wrongful death matters. Per California Code of Civil Procedure Section 335.1, a lawsuit must be filed within two years of the collision date. Therefore, contact an experienced injury lawyer immediately to discuss your rights and options for financial recovery.
