Vacaville Car Accident 2017

Vacaville Crash Kills Sacramento Woman

I’m Ed Smith, a Vacaville car accident lawyer. On Monday, May 22, 2017, a 56-year-old woman from Sacramento tragically lost her life in a motor vehicle accident on highway Interstate 80 in Vacaville. In addition to the woman’s death, another occupant of her vehicle suffered traumatic injuries and was hospitalized. We extend our condolences to the family of the woman who died in this tragedy. We send our hopes for a full recovery to the other injured individuals impacted by this crash.

Accident Details

According to a report from the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the car accident occurred shortly before 11:30 p.m. on the eastbound portion of the highway. The deceased woman had been riding in the front passenger seat of a 1998 Mitsubishi Montero while her husband, a 58-year-old man and also a long-time resident of Sacramento, had been driving.

Case of a Vehicle Drifting

CHP officer Dave Harvey reported that the Mitsubishi had been in the number 2 lane of the highway headed toward Sacramento near the exit for Leisure Town Road when, for reasons unknown, the vehicle drifted toward the left, crossing the number 1 lane before it collided with the center median. Harvey indicated that the collision with the median caused the car to overturn and eject the woman through the window of the vehicle.

Emergency Response

When emergency medical responders arrived at the scene of the collision, they found that the woman had died as a result of being ejected from the vehicle and pronounced her dead on-scene.

Reportedly, the driver of the vehicle only suffered moderate injuries but was still taken to the nearby Kaiser Permanente Vacaville Medical Center for treatment of his injuries as well as screening for more severe injuries that may not have been immediately apparent.

No other vehicles or persons were involved in the wreck.

Driver Fatigue a Factor?

CHP officers indicated that, while they do not know for certain what factors led to the crash, they believe that the driver had been operating his vehicle while dangerously fatigued and attempted to make an unsafe turning maneuver as a result. CHP has also noted that they do not believe drunk driving to have had a role in causing the accident to happen.

Call to Action

The California Highway patrol is actively investigating this incident and has asked anybody who may have information about the crash to contact them by calling 1-800-TELL-CHP to tell officers what they know.
