Hopland Accident Causes Injuries

A 26-year-old man from the community of Upper Lake was left with major injuries after being involved in a Hopland accident that took place on Thursday, February 20, 2020. Ukiah area California Highway Patrol (CHP) officials stated that this accident involved four separate vehicles and happened during the day on Highway 101 near Hopland. In addition to the Upper Lake man, two other people suffered injuries during the incident.

Crash Information

The crash took place to the north of Old River Road outside of Hopland on the northbound side of Highway 101. CHP indicated that a 35-year-old man from Santa Rosa was heading north on the highway in a 2005 Ford F-150 close to the Green Bridge at a speed of approximately 60 miles per hour. For unknown reasons, the pickup veered left and crossed over the median into southbound traffic.

As the Ford entered southbound lanes, it entered the path of a Volkswagen Jetta. The two vehicles collided head-on, causing the Volkswagen to lose control and enter northbound lanes. The Volkswagen then collided head-on with a second vehicle, a 216 Freightliner tow truck being driven by a 28-year-old resident of Pittsburg. After this crash, the Volkswagen was hit a third time by a southbound 2020 Ford Fusion being driven by a 22-year-old woman from Arcata.

Response

CHP sent a team of emergency responders to the scene of the accident immediately. When emergency officials reached the crash scene, they discovered that the Volkswagen driver had suffered serious trauma. Additionally, they discovered the Arcata woman with moderate injuries. Both were transported to the Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for emergency care. Reports indicated that a medical helicopter was called to the accident site.

CHP indicated that the driver of the tow truck and pickup were both treated for minor injuries by medical responders and released at the accident scene.

Additionally, the collision caused a minor gas spill. CHP reportedly called in hazmat teams from Mendocino County Environmental Health and Caltrans in order to clean the hazardous materials off of the highway.

Investigation of Hopland Accident

CHP shut down all but one traffic lane at the crash scene for three hours while response and preliminary investigation were conducted. Reportedly, all of the vehicles involved in the accident were totaled during the accident and needed to be towed from the site.

So far, CHP officials have not released any information about what factors they believe may have caused this accident. Multiple vehicle crashes are often caused by more than one factor, and many car accident factors are not under driver control. Such causes include things like malfunctioning vehicles and issues with the roadway.

Calling an Attorney

Negligent parties are usually very quick to take action and defend themselves from financial responsibility. Unfortunately, this can keep crash survivors from recovering the compensation that they deserve for the damages that they suffered during car accidents. In order to ensure that you can obtain the payment you deserve for your losses, it’s critical to get help from a skilled, experienced personal injury lawyer in your area.
