Accident at Madison Avenue Intersection Results in Injuries

A two-vehicle crash happened at a Fair Oaks intersection recently that resulted in injuries. It was reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) that the collision occurred at the intersection of Madison Avenue and Mckay Street around 1:32 in the afternoon between a Honda sedan and Subaru sedan. The accident blocked the eastbound lanes along Madison Avenue as paramedics with the Sacramento Fire Department assessed possible injuries.

One party was transported to a hospital for additional treatment and evaluation. Both vehicles sustained enough damage that they had to be removed by tow trucks. The incident is under investigation by the CHP to find out how it occurred.

Why a Two-Vehicle Crash at an Intersection Happens

Around four out of ten of all traffic collisions occur at intersections. It’s easy to see why when traffic is converging from all different directions and is complicated by the presence of bicycle riders and pedestrians. Some of the main reasons a two-vehicle crash occurs are:

  • A driver runs a red light or stop sign, which causes an accident. Some drivers ignore the rules of the road and go ahead to pass through an intersection even when it isn’t their turn. This is probably the most common cause of an intersection two-vehicle crash.
  • Speeding leads to an intersection accident because the driver is going so fast they can’t slow down or stop without losing control of their vehicle. This can easily cause a two-vehicle crash.
  • Making a risky turn: Some drivers try to pass through the left-turn light just after it changes. However, traffic is probably already coming through from the other directions. This can cause a T-bone collision. Turning right can be just as risky if the motorist’s vision is blocked by other vehicles. A risky right-turn accident can end up either being a rear-end crash or a T-bone.
  • Making an illegal U-turn: Although U-turns are allowed at some intersections, they aren’t at others. A two-vehicle crash can result if other drivers don’t realize another motorist is making an illegal maneuver.
  • Changing lanes when turning: If some motorists don’t like the lane they are in when they make a turn, they sometimes change lanes too quickly, which can result in a sideswipe two-vehicle crash.

Investigating Intersection Accidents

There are many factors that go into investigating an intersection accident. Because it is necessary to prove fault in a two-vehicle crash, our investigators collect the evidence needed to support our client’s compensation claim. They go right away to the site of the two-vehicle collision to begin.

The investigators talk to the witnesses to the accident. They also review the police report to ensure it has no mistakes. The investigators use accident reconstruction techniques, including taking photographs of the site and vehicles.

Accident reconstruction itself shows the positions of the vehicles before the accident, how it happened and where those cars or trucks ended up. This type of compelling evidence is widely used by both insurance companies and in court. Evidence is also gathered from any nearby traffic surveillance or business cameras. Our injury lawyers take the gathered evidence to prepare a strong case in favor of our client.
