Two Injured in Alleged Tehama County DUI

On Sunday, August 2, 2020, two Rancho Tehama men sustained injuries during a car accident in Tehama County. Both individuals injured during the accident reportedly suffered major trauma. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) said that the accident involved a single vehicle and occurred near the rural community of Rancho Tehama. Additionally, the vehicle driver was placed under arrest for DUI charges before being released into hospital custody. The accident remains under investigation.

Crash Details

The accident occurred just after midnight on Paskenta Road near the intersection at Gyle Road. CHP indicated that a 34-year-old man was driving a 2008 Toyota Tacoma southbound when he lost control of his vehicle. The Toyota drove off-road and crashed into a nearby fence before overturning.

Emergency officials reaching the accident site discovered that both the driver and passenger of the truck were seriously hurt. After police formally placed the driver under arrest on suspicion of DUI, the driver was reportedly flown to the Enloe Medical Center in Chico via helicopter ambulance for treatment. The passenger was transported by ground ambulance to the same hospital.

Investigation of Tehama County Crash

While police have stated that they suspect DUI and speeding were involved in the accident, a full investigation into possible collision factors is still being investigated. In many cases, single-vehicle crashes are caused by more than one thing and often include non-driver causes like issues with the road and/or defective vehicle parts.

Rollovers are Especially Dangerous

Rollover collisions are one of the most dangerous types of car accidents and cause many more severe injuries than most kinds of crashes. According to data from the NHTSA, rollovers make up just around two percent of United States crashes but account for fully ten percent of auto accident fatalities.

There are multiple factors that make rollovers especially dangerous. However, one of the most important reasons is weak vehicle roofs. If the roof of a vehicle is constructed out of weak material or designed poorly, it may crush inward during a rollover, leaving passengers and drivers with very serious injuries. In cases that involve roof crush injuries, the vehicle manufacturer is often considered an at-fault party to the accident, and injured individuals can hold them responsible for damages through a personal injury claim.

Because your attorney needs to be able to determine whether or not your vehicle had a weak roof, it’s critical to preserve the wrecked car as evidence following the collision.

Calling an Attorney

People that suffer injuries during car accidents are often in a very difficult situation. Not only do car accident survivors frequently need extensive, expensive medical care, but being injured can affect your ability to earn an income. Together, these issues can leave people feeling unsure of how they can pay for the care that they need to recover.

However, it’s often possible to get compensation for these losses. To learn more about claiming compensation through personal injury claims, it’s best to talk about your case personally with an experienced accident attorney.
