Two Killed During Williams Area Motorcycle Accident

On Friday, September 4, 2020, two people lost their lives as the result of a Williams area motorcycle accident. The crash was first reported by California Highway Patrol (CHP). Officers indicated that the collision involved only one vehicle and happened on Highway Interstate 5. The names of the decedents are currently being withheld by Colusa County officials. However, police indicated that the motorcycle driver was a 51-year-old man while the passenger was a 46-year-old woman.

Crash Information

According to information from CHP, the crash happened at night near Lenahan Road on I5. The couple was riding a 2000-model Honda Shadow southbound on the highway just prior to the crash. According to police, the driver made an unsafe turning movement for unknown reasons. Following the turn, the vehicle veered to the right and eventually drove off the road. The motorcycle eventually crashed into a barbed-wire fence and drove into a nearby ditch, throwing both the driver and passenger off the bike.

Response

CHP dispatched an emergency response to the crash site directly after being notified about the incident. When response officials reached the area, they found that both the driver and passenger were critically injured. Both individuals were tragically declared deceased on-scene.

Investigation

CHP officers have stated that they are still actively attempting to determine what factors caused this accident. Motorcycle accidents can happen for a wide variety of reasons and many crashes involve multiple factors. Often, crashes like this one occur because of issues not under motorcyclist control like road hazards or malfunctioning bike parts.

Furthermore, accidents with no surviving involved parties present a challenge to investigators. Because police can’t interview the involved individuals, it’s possible that investigating officers won’t be able to fully understand what caused the crash. Sadly, this can cause critical evidence to go unnoticed. To ensure a deadly accident is investigated to the fullest extent possible, you should be sure to hire an attorney with experience privately investigating collisions. An experienced Williams wrongful death lawyer will know how to use their resources to determine if any kind of negligence was to blame for the accident.

Wrongful Death Damages

Losing a person that you love is never easy and replacing their presence in your life is impossible. However, family members and dependents of motorcycle accident decedents can frequently claim payments to help them recover and move forward with their lives. This can be accomplished through wrongful death claims.

A wrongful death claim seeks to hold negligent parties and/or insurers financially responsible following fatal accidents. The payments that are available through these claims vary widely from case to case, but typically include compensation for personal and economic damages. The best way to learn what compensation may be available to you and your family is to speak with a trusted professional as soon as you possibly can.
