Help When a Multiple-Vehicle Collision Occurs

When multiple vehicles become involved in a collision and injuries or fatalities result, more than one driver might be liable. This is where the services of a personal injury lawyer can help. The lawyer can investigate the accident and determine fault, whether it be another driver/drivers, poor roadway maintenance, a defective auto part, or others. In this way, all of those responsible can be held liable. An investigation often includes:

  • Reviewing the police report for citations of negligence such as intoxication, speeding, distracted driving, and others
  • Performing accident reconstruction to determine the positions of the vehicles before, during and after the multiple-vehicle accident
  • Checking for nearby surveillance cameras that might have captured the accident
  • Examining the multiple-vehicle crash site for signs of roadway damage
  • Examining the vehicle itself to determine if a defective auto part caused the collision

Compensation in a Wrongful Death Claim

When you’ve lost someone in a multiple-vehicle crash, the family might be able to recover the following by filing a claim for wrongful death:

  • Expenses for the funeral and burial
  • The family can recover the wages the individual would have earned until their retirement, including benefits
  • Compensation for pain and suffering may include loss of consortium for the spouse, the guidance and nurturing the parent would have given their children and their grief
  • Compensation for the loss of household assistance the decedent provided
