Two Dead After Tehama County Hit-and-Run on Paskenta Road

On Monday, June 1, 2020, two people tragically lost their lives in a Tehama County hit-and-run crash that took place just south of the Rancho Tehama area. The accident involved two vehicles and occurred in the early evening on Paskenta Road. The decedents have been identified as two residents of Elk Grove, including a 13-year-old girl and a 26-year-old man. California Highway Patrol (CHP) is actively looking for the missing driver.

Collision Details

The collision occurred at about 4:27 p.m. near the intersection of Paskenta Road and Rancho Tehama Road east of the city of Corning. CHP indicated that a Honda Civic was driving southbound on Paskenta when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle veered left and traveled into the northbound lane, skidding directly into the path of a Ford E250 van. The van reportedly collided head-on with the passenger side of the Honda, nearly crushing the smaller vehicle in half.

Directly after the accident, the driver of the Ford exited the vehicle. According to CHP, witnesses stated that the driver left the scene in a second Honda that was occupied by a driver and one other passenger.

Response

By the time emergency responders reached the accident scene, the Ford driver had left. CHP officers and other rescue personnel discovered that two occupants of the Honda had suffered critical injuries during the incident. Tragically, both individuals were pronounced deceased on-site.

Investigation

As police continue to search for the missing driver, officers of the Red Bluff area CHP have asked for public help with their investigation. Any accident witnesses or individuals with information about the missing driver are urged to contact CHP by calling (530) 527-2034.

Wrongful Death Accidents

Wrongful death accidents are tragedies and can leave families feeling overwhelmed. Dealing with the intense grief that comes along with a fatal accident can be very difficult, and many people feel as if they are unable to deal with their daily lives while they are coping with their emotions.

However, many families aren’t able to focus on spending time together and healing emotionally because of pressing financial concerns. A fatal crash can leave families without an income source that they rely on or without access to important services that their loved one used to perform like auto maintenance, cooking, or childcare. Furthermore, the costs of burial and funeral services can be shockingly high.

Calling a Lawyer

To ensure that you and your loved ones have financial stability during a difficult time, it’s vital to call a Corning wrongful death lawyer at your earliest opportunity. Having an attorney early on can be an important part of successfully resolving your case and knowing that an experienced professional is on your side often helps people focus on spending time with their family and friends and processing their grief.

Hit-and-Run Accidents

When at-fault parties to car accidents cannot be located, they can’t be held liable for damages. However, it is often still possible to obtain compensation by going through your own insurance company and utilizing “uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage.” However, this kind of coverage isn’t universal and policies can vary widely.
