Six People Injured in Covelo Car Accident

On Saturday, August 8, 2020, six people suffered injuries ranging from moderate to major during a Covelo car accident. The collisions involved a single vehicle and happened in the very early morning. According to California Highway Patrol (CHP), four of the injured individuals were children, and the accident caused the vehicle to go up in flames. Updates on the conditions of the injured parties have not been reported, and the involved driver has been placed under arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Crash Details

The accident occurred at approximately 1:45 a.m. on Hill road to the east of the Dobie Lane intersection. Officials stated that a 25-year-old man was driving a 2016 Mazda CX5 with another adult and four children as passengers. For undetermined reasons, the vehicle drove off-road and crashed head-on into a large oak tree. As a result of the crash, the Mazda caught fire and quickly erupted into flames.

Response to Covelo Car Accident

Reportedly, area residents rushed outside and helped the six vehicle occupants out of the burning wreck. Collision witnesses called CHP, who immediately sent emergency staff to the site. Responding agencies included CHP as well as the Covelo and Laytonville Volunteer Fire Departments, Cal Fire, and three different helicopter ambulance companies.

When responding officials arrived, they determined that all six individuals were injured and had them all transported to various hospitals in Northern California. While en route to the Howard Memorial Hospital, the driver was placed under arrest for DUI causing major injuries.

Burn Injuries

Accidents that involve car fires are very likely to cause burn injuries. These injuries can be very severe, incredibly painful, and often require extensive medical procedures. Burn injuries heal slowly, and injured individuals may be in recovery for months or even years. Furthermore, burn injuries often cause serious scarring, which can cause a lot of mental stress.

Fortunately, there are many procedures doctors can perform to help patients recover from major burn injuries. However, these procedures can be expensive and many crash survivors aren’t sure that they will be able to pay for the care that they need.

Getting Help

While the above issues can feel overwhelming, it is possible to get help. Collision survivors can reach out to an experienced attorney to help them file a personal injury claim. By doing so it’s often possible for people to obtain the funds they need to pay for the medical care they deserve. Additionally, many crash survivors are also able to claim payments for other damages, including personal suffering, lost wages or earning potential, and more.
