Road Rage Accident Sonora

I’m Ed Smith, a Modesto personal injury lawyer. A man was driving with a toddler in his vehicle during the morning hours of Thursday, June 1, 2017. Unfortunately, the man was involved in a road rage accident which caused him to suffer traumatic injuries.

What Happened?

A man was driving his black Mercedes-Benz along Highway 108 in the vicinity of South Washington Street in Sonora at about 9:00 am. The man was allegedly “tailgating” another motorist in front of him in a silver Honda Civic. The man pulled his vehicle over on the side of the road where the Honda driver also pulled over a short distance ahead of him. The man exited his Mercedes-Benz and allegedly threw his arms in the air moments before the Honda driver committed the unexpected. The motorist of the Honda began reversing their vehicle into the man, who was standing outside of his vehicle. The impact from the Honda caused the man to suffer injuries and his vehicle to sustain severe damage to the driver’s side.

A 2-year-old toddler was sitting at the back of the Mercedes-Benz at the time of the incident. The Honda driver remained at the scene until officers arrived. When authorities arrived, the Honda driver told them that he was not aware that there was a toddler in the vehicle.

Man Suffers Major Injuries

The 2-year-old boy in the back seat of the Mercedes-Benz did not suffer any injuries as a result of this incident. Sadly, the collision from the Honda caused the man to suffer traumatic injuries. He had to be transported via air ambulance to a hospital in Modesto for emergency trauma care.

Authorities Arrest Honda Driver

Detectives from the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office went to visit the victim at the hospital in Modesto to obtain a full statement. Authorities then arrested the Honda driver. That person was booked into the Tuolumne County Jail for assault with a deadly weapon.

Who Caused the Accident?

Traffic Collision Reports generally take up to two weeks to be processed and typically indicate who was at fault. Investigators determined that the incident was committed intentionally by the driver of the Honda. Traffic reports may sometimes be inconclusive in determining fault. It is best, especially when someone has suffered major or even fatal injuries, to speak with an experienced personal injury lawyer to investigate the scene of the accident and analyze the sequence of events leading up to the incident to accurately pinpoint fault.

Preventing Road Rage Accidents

Authorities suggest that whenever a motorist is found exercising aggressive driving behaviors, it is best to pull over and contact law enforcement. By doing so, you are ensuring the safety of you and your loved ones from experiencing a potential road rage accident like the one above.
