What is Wrongful Death?

Coming to terms with the sudden loss of a family member is one of the most challenging aspects of life. Such a loss may be even more devastating when it has been determined that it occurred through the actions of another party or entity. Wrongful death occurs when an individual or entity’s carelessness or negligence causes an innocent party to lose their life. In California, eligible survivors may file a claim for damages against a negligent party or entity.

In the context of a big rig crash, there may be several at-fault parties based on the facts and circumstances of the matter. This may include the semi-truck driver, trucking company, third-party company that loaded the cargo, the maintenance provider of the big rig, the 18-wheeler parts manufacturer, and more. An independent investigation into the incident to identify all negligent parties is necessary and should be left to a skilled attorney to handle.
