Four-Vehicle Crash Reported on Highway 99

A traffic crash along Highway 99 near Chico injured two people in a four-vehicle accident on June 10. The collision happened around 5:00 a.m. near Gaia Road. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) incident report said that a woman driving south along the highway drifted over into the lane going northbound, crashing into a tractor-trailer heading north.

Minor Injuries Reported in Multiple-Vehicle Traffic Crash

The collision caused several other vehicles to be involved in the initial crash by colliding with them also. Minor injuries were reported in two people. According to Caltrans, Highway 99’s northbound lane was closed down until around 6:45 a.m., while the scene was cleared. The cause of the accident is being investigated by the CHP.

Being Involved in a Traffic Crash Involving Multiple Vehicles

When a traffic accident involves multiple vehicles, determining fault can be complicated. However, it is necessary to prove which driver/drivers were negligent for the client to recover maximum compensation because more than one may be at fault. Drivers involved in a traffic crash often do so for one of the following reasons:

  • The driver was speeding and unable to slow down in time to avoid causing a traffic crash.
  • A motorist was texting or checking their email while driving, and because they were looking down instead of concentrating on traffic, they crashed into another driver.
  • A tailgating driver was too close to other vehicles and ended up colliding with one.
  • One driver had been drinking and was weaving in the roadway and crashed into another vehicle.
  • A fatigued driver fell asleep at the wheel.

Finding the Cause of a Multiple-Vehicle Accident

Our investigators are experienced in determining the cause of an accident involving multiple vehicles. The basis of a claim to recover compensation rests on the collection of evidence. Some of the areas of investigation to recover evidence are:

  • The investigators photograph the vehicles and area in which the traffic crash occurred. Smears of paint, dents and dropped pieces of metal can show how a vehicle was struck and by which other cars or trucks and even the order in which they occurred.
  • The accident report that is filed by the responding police is examined to ensure it is error-free. If not, corrections have to be made because errors could adversely affect a client’s ability to recover damages.
  • Traffic surveillance cameras and those from nearby businesses are checked to see if the traffic crash was caught on tape. This type of compelling evidence can be subpoenaed if it was and strongly supports a client’s accident claim.
  • Anyone who witnessed the collision is interviewed, not only for corroborating statements but to see if someone used their smartphone to capture the accident as it happened.
  • Accident reconstruction is performed by the investigators because it shows the positioning of the vehicles beforehand, how they collided with each other and where they ended up.

All of this information is gathered together and handed over to our injury lawyers who use it in constructing a strong case.
