Visit Davis Ranch

Davis Ranch is a produce stand and working farm located at 13211 Jackson Road. They are famous for their Sloughhouse Sweet Corn, fresh produce including summer asparagus, and their Cut-Your-Own Christmas tree farm during the holiday season.

Limits on Pickling Cucumbers this Season

Davis Ranch at one time offered bulk pickling cucumbers, but this year the supply is limited. They are currently offering two-pound bags for sale. These are sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

Tuesday and Saturday: U-Pick Produce

A fun family adventure awaits two days a week at Davis Ranch, from now until mid-November. The pick-your-own produce is available on Tuesdays and Saturdays from sunrise until 1:00 p.m. Go to the back parking lot and follow the U-PICK signs. You can’t beat the price – $0.40 per pound. There is a $20.00 minimum, which equals 50 pounds of fresh produce!

Available fruits and vegetables include, but are not limited to:

  • Squash
  • Snow peas
  • Green tomatoes
  • Green beans
  • Green peppers

*Note that U-Pick strawberries are not included in this price.

Because all produce is seasonal and availability varies, it’s a good idea to call the Ranch’s U-PICK LINE at (916) 502-7983 before you head out to the farm to learn what is available for the current week. Supplies are limited.

Recipe for Fresh Sloughhouse Corn

While Sloughhouse Sweet Corn is delicious after a quick cook in boiling water with nothing but butter and salt, you can crank up the delicious factor by making elote, or Mexican grilled street corn. A simple elote recipe follows:

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Cotija or feta cheese, finely crumbled
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup Mexican crema or sour cream
  • 1/4 cup cilantro leaves, finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon chile powder (ancho or guajillo)
  • 1 finely minced medium garlic clove – equal to roughly a teaspoon
  • 4 ears of shucked corn on the cob
  • Lime wedges

Directions

  • Get a charcoal or gas grill hot – clean and oil the grate.
  • While the grill is heating, mix together in a large bowl the mayonnaise, cheese, crema/sour cream, chile powder, cilantro, and minced garlic.

Once the grill is ready, place the ears of corn directly on the hot parts of the grate. Rotate occasionally while cooking. Grill for about 8 minutes, until the kernels are thoroughly cooked and there are charred areas on all sides.

Transfer the hot corn to the bowl containing the mayo/cheese mixture. Use a spoon to evenly coat all sides of the corn with the mixture. Sprinkle with extra chile powder and cheese and serve immediately with a lime wedge.
