Officials revealed in a preliminary report that the three vehicles collided in the area and involved damage to a PG&E utility pole that went across the roadway. Authorities noted dense fog in the press release, and the incident prompted the request of three American Medical Response (AMR) units.

A total of four patients required assistance, including one with emergency extrication. The injuries ranged from moderate to serious. Two medical helicopters were initially requested but could not land due to dense fog. The four patients were transported by ground ambulance to area hospitals.

Crews from PG&E immediately responded to the incident to provide a remedy for the damaged utility pole. Additional details on the recent car accident on Byron Highway and Hay Road has not yet been made available. An investigation into the crash is ongoing by CHP traffic officers.

Things You Should Know After a Car Accident

Motor vehicle collisions in Byron may lead to minor to catastrophic injuries. Car wrecks may occur anywhere, from Byron Highway to State Route 4. When an individual has been injured in an auto crash because of a negligent driver or entity, they may be entitled to financial recovery through a personal injury claim. The foundation of an accident case is that a negligent party may be held liable for damages arising from a preventable accident that injures others on the roadway. Drivers in California have a duty of care to operate their vehicles safely. When they fail to do so, an injured party may file a personal injury case against them and their insurance company.

A personal injury claim seeks reimbursement of economic and non-economic damages from a negligent party or entity to make the claimant whole again. In other words, the purpose of financial recovery is to restore the injured party to the position they would have been in had the incident never occurred. The types of losses that may be claimed include medical bills, lost income, pain and suffering, and more. These claims are generally handled by the insurance company representing the negligent party. If the other side had limited coverage or no insurance, the injured party may bring an uninsured or underinsured motorist claim through their policy.

In California, there is a time limit on the ability to file a case against a negligent party or entity to hold them accountable for accident-related losses. Also known as the statute of limitations, this allows a maximum of two years from the date of the crash to file a case in civil court. This is by CCP 335.1. When a case involves a public agency, a notice of claim must be filed no later than 180 days after the incident. If the statute of limitations is not protected, the claimant may lose the right to seek compensation. That is why it is crucial to retain legal counsel immediately.
