Accident on West Side Freeway Occurs During the Early Morning Hours

An injury occurred in a three-vehicle accident in Sacramento on September 8 on the West Side Freeway that involved a big rig. The collision was reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) as happening around 5:11 a.m. along northbound I-5 just south of the Cosumnes River Boulevard off-ramp. Two lanes were blocked by the crash, which involved a big rig, Ford Escape, and a BMW, with an injury reported to someone in the truck.

Caltrans Changeable Message Sign Damaged by Collision

One of the vehicles may have struck a Caltrans changeable message sign on the right-hand side, and they were notified. The semi was reported with damage on its right-hand side. An investigation into the cause of the three-vehicle accident is underway by the CHP.

Finding Fault in a Three-Vehicle Accident

Traffic accidents happen in the blink of an eye. One minute, a driver is passing through an intersection, going down a highway, or backing out of a driveway, and the next thing they know, they are trying to understand what happened because they’ve been involved in a traffic accident. However, understanding who was at fault is important for insurance purposes and legal liability.

Recovering Damages Following a Traffic Accident Injury

A three-vehicle accident is a common cause of injuries and fatalities. They can leave an innocent person with terrible injuries and pain and suffering, mounting medical bills, and the inability to work. Because accidents happen so quickly, it takes investigative techniques to determine who was at fault, so the injured party can place a claim to recover damages either through the at-fault party’s insurance company or in civil court.

Investigating the Three-Vehicle Accident

Our investigative team is experienced in gathering the evidence needed to provide strong support for a client’s claim for compensation. Among their areas of investigation are:

  • The report filed by the police who responded to the accident has to be checked for accuracy. This is because any errors could affect a client’s compensation claim.
  • Witnesses to the three-vehicle accident are interviewed for statements that corroborate how it occurred. Sometimes, a witness managed to capture the accident on their cell phone as it happened, which provides good evidence.
  • Area traffic and business surveillance cameras are checked to see if the accident was captured on video. If it was, we can subpoena the film as evidence.
  • The traffic records of the others involved in the collision are checked to see if they have been involved in previous accidents or have a record of infractions.
  • The investigators perform accident reconstruction, which indicates the positions of the vehicles before and during the collision as well as afterward. This type of evidence often points toward fault in the three-vehicle accident and is commonly used both during insurance company negotiations by the injury lawyer on the client’s behalf or in civil court.
