Three Dead After Head-On Crash on Highway 160 Near Rio Vista

Three Dead Following Crash Near Rio Vista

On Tuesday, April 14, 2020, a head-on crash near Rio Vista, CA, tragically left three people with fatal injuries. The accident was reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) in the late evening and happened on Highway 160 in the delta. According to CHP officers, the accident involved a sedan and a pickup truck. The three people who died in the collision were all reported as occupants of the sedan. They were recently identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office as 26-year-old Corey Johnny Wolford of Antioch, 27-year-old Alice Tarae Acoff of Sacramento, and a 7-year-old Sacramento boy.

Accident Details

According to information from police, the car accident happened on State Route 160 just north of West Sherman Island Cross Road between Antioch and Rio Vista. At around 6:50 p.m., a 2001 Saturn sedan was driving north on Highway 160 when the driver apparently lost control of the vehicle. The Saturn veered left and crossed into southbound lanes, entering the path of a 2017 Toyota Tundra pickup truck. Reports indicated that the driver of the Toyota was not able to avoid the smaller vehicle and collided head-on with the Saturn’s passenger side.

After receiving news of the incident, police dispatched emergency teams to the head-on crash on Highway 160. Upon arriving, responders discovered that two adults and one juvenile inside of the Saturn had suffered critical injuries. Tragically, all three were declared deceased at the scene of the collision. The two occupants of the Toyota pickup truck reportedly sustained minor injuries as a result of the auto accident. Whether or not they received hospital care has not yet been reported.

Investigation of the Rio Vista Head-On Crash

The CHP has stated that they are currently unsure what factors may have played a role in this devastating car crash. Highway 160 was reportedly blocked to traffic in the area of the crash throughout most of the night while officers conducted investigations at the scene.

Head-on collisions like this one happen very frequently and, in many cases, are caused by one or more factors that none of the involved drivers can control. These factors can be dangerous and include things like defective car parts or unsafe road conditions. However, it can be difficult for officers to investigate car wrecks in which an involved driver has passed away and is unable to provide their version of events. In these cases, police are liable to overlook non-driver factors. In order to ensure that the crash is investigated fully, the best thing you can do is call an experienced wrongful death lawyer in Sacramento to discuss your case.
