Teens Injured After Hitting Parked Boat in Antioch

On March 9, firefighters from the Contra Costa County division were called to the scene in Antioch where a car accident left two minors with moderate-to-major injuries. The accident took place near the intersection of Viera Ave and Oakley Road at approximately 9:38 p.m. The vehicle occupied by the two teens crashed into a parked boat. No other parties were involved in the crash. Police were called to the site of the accident and are still investigating what caused the collision.

Accident Details

According to authorities on scene, the car struck the rear of a parked boat along the 2400 block of Oakley Road. The vehicle is suspected of traveling at a high-speed rate in the moments leading up to the crash. The driver of the car has not been identified. One teen was ejected from the vehicle and suffered serious injuries. The other teen inside the car had injuries to his arm and wrist. The impact of the crash resulted in significant damage to the boat, as well as a car that was hitched to the boat and two other vehicles nearby. Additionally, a truck parked close by also experienced the collision’s impact and was pushed over the curb. Authorities said that it is not known if drugs or alcohol may have been involved in the accident.

Consequences of Speeding

Speeding goes beyond illegal driving behavior. The negative effects that speeding can have are of a wide range, including:

  • Increased likelihood of losing control of the vehicle
  • Diminished effectiveness of car occupant protection equipment
  • Increased stopping distance once the driver notices a danger
  • Increased degree of collision severity, resulting in more serious injuries
  • Financial implications of a speed-related accident
  • Increased fuel cost and consumption
