Teenager Dies in Corning Car Accident

On Sunday, April 19, 2020, one person tragically lost his life as the result of a Corning car accident. Tehama County officials have identified the decedent as a 19-year-old man, but have not released his name or place of residence. California Highway Patrol (CHP) indicated that the crash involved only a single vehicle and happened during the very early morning. The collision remains under CHP investigation at this time.

Crash Information

Police reported that the rollover wreck happened at around 3:00 a.m. on Corning Road. The teenager was driving a 2001 Honda Civic at an unknown speed and heading east when he approached a curve in the road. As the Honda entered the curve, it lost traction and drifted onto the gravel shoulder of the highway. According to reports, the driver attempted to recover and reenter the road, but the vehicle overturned as it traveled onto the pavement.

After the crash was reported to the police, an emergency response team was dispatched to the accident scene. Upon arriving, responders discovered the 19-year-old had suffered critical injuries during the incident. Sadly, the young man was declared deceased on-scene.

Investigation

As CHP officers continue to investigate this accident, they have not yet reported what factors might have been involved. Single-vehicle crashes can be caused by many different factors. Commonly, drivers are unable to control one or more of the factors involved in the collision, meaning that other parties may be liable.

In collisions like this one, it can be hard for police to fully understand what happened because they are unable to obtain information from any involved parties. Because of this, police are liable to leave important evidence uncovered. To ensure the incident is investigated fully, the best thing to do is to work with a wrongful death lawyer who can privately investigate the accident.

Rollover Crashes

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has released statistics showing that accidents involving an overturned vehicle have a disproportionately high rate of severe and fatal injuries. One of the key reasons that these crashes are dangerous is that vehicle roofs are often not strong enough to keep occupants safe. Because auto product manufacturers are expected to ensure the safety of the vehicles they make, they are often considered negligent in cases where weak vehicle roofs leave people seriously injured.
